RSE Mission

The development and maintenance of research software are an integral part of academic activity and require specialized expertise, time, and long-term continuity.

The mission of the Research Software Engineering (RSE) team is to systematically provide this work in close collaboration with academic staff. In doing so, the RSE team creates the conditions that allow researchers and teachers to focus on their scientific and educational goals, while ensuring that software used in research remains functional and understandable

The primary role of the RSE team is to support researchers throughout the lifecycle of their research software. Academic staff can contact us at any stage of their project. Examples of our work, illustrating the range of problems we have helped to solve, can be found in our Portfolio.

Events

The RSE team offers training activities aimed at improving research software skills across the academic community. Our training program consists of two complementary formats. Regular courses and One-off training events. An overview of all available trainings is in the Events section.

Consulting

We provide consultations in the preparation of grant projects and actively participate in project implementation through the engagement of the RSE Team members in project teams, provision of support, and expert review. When collaborating with students, a key aspect of our work is the transfer of knowledge to the specific professional challenges of the workplace for which the doctoral or graduate student is working.

AI Sandbox Development

The RSE team leads the development of the OpenWebUI platform, referred to as the AI Sandbox. The platform is designed to support research and teaching activities of Charles University staff. We work in close collaboration with the dedicated AI team responsible for its operation and governance.

High-Performance Computing Support (HPC)

The RSE team also provides expert support for the effective use of the institutional HPC infrastructure, including the Chimera computing cluster. We assist researchers with adapting their software to high-performance environments, optimizing computational workflows, and making efficient use of available computing resources.

Contact us

You can contact us at rse@cuni.cz, if you are interested in collaboration. Feel free to reach out even if you do not yet have a clear idea of the software solution, as helping to lower barriers to research software is an integral part of our work.

Projects in the Humanities

We also work closely with the Centre for Digital Humanities on the development of web and cloud-based applications, as well as other tools supporting research in these fields.
