    The principles of volunteering

Respect the rules of the partner organizations

Follow the rules established by Charles University and our partner organizations. You will learn all the information at the information session or at a meeting with the representatives of a non-profit organization.

Cooperate with the CU volunteer coordinators

Our coordinators are at your disposal. You can find their contact information here.

Fulfil the tasks that you committed to

Responsibility is one of the prerequisites for successful volunteering. If, for example, you cannot come, apologize in advance.

Demonstrate that they can rely on you

Be on time for meetings and respond to e-mails so that communication doesn’t get in the way of your volunteering.

Communicate difficulties or problem situation in time

In the event of an unexpected event or conflict, do not hesitate to contact your coordinator. Handle difficult situations with discretion and as soon as possible. If you find yourself in a difficult situation, you can also contact the Carolina Centre.

If in doubt, do not hesitate to ask

The university coordinators and representatives of partner organizations are available for answering any of your questions.

You are not replacing professionals, so be aware of your role

Although we may have experience in the field, our role is still primarily as an amateur. It’s okay to leave the more complex tasks to the professionals. Contact your non-profit organization if needed.

    Respect your boundaries

You are working as a volunteer. Don’t do things that would be unacceptable for yourself.

Choose an activity that will be fun and fulfilling

Consider in advance what kind of activity you would enjoy, and try to focus on this when selecting.

Take care of your mental and physical health

Above all, remember that volunteering is just another possibility for self-development and helping others. Consider your study and work priorities responsibly.
