Installation

1. Installing Java environment

In order to run the application, users need to have installed Java 1.6 or higher, which can be found here: http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp

2. Importing the root certificate of the Certification Authority

DG Client application is issued and electronically signed by the Charles University, which is also the purpose of the electronic certificate issued by the I.CA certification authority. For trouble-free functioning of the application, users need to have installed in their system the I.CA root certificate. This certificate is a standard part of newer installations of the Windows operation system. For other operation systems, such as Mac OS X or Linux, the certificate has to be imported manually:

1. Downloading the I.CA root certificate

2. Open the application for configuring Java environment. In Windows, this app is found in control panels, while in Mac OS X, it is found in ‘System Preferences – Java’.

3. Switch to bookmark ‘Security’ and press ‘Manage Certificates...’

4. In a newly opened window, choose from the menu ‘Signer CA’ and make sure you are on the ‘User’ bookmark.

5. Press ‘Import’ and choose file of I.CA root certificate you have downloaded at the beginning. Close the window by pressing ‘Close’.

6. And finally, the setting needs to be confirmed in the original window of configuring Java Control Panel by pressing ‘OK’ or ‘Apply’. To confirm configuration, the computer will ask for Administrator. If need be, contact your computer’s administrator or us.

3. Running the application

In order to run the application, click on http://charles.ruk.cuni.cz:8081/index.jnlp

If the file only downloads to your disk, click on the file and the application should start running. If the installer asks you a question about trusting the file or publisher, answer in the positive.

4. Configuring the profile

Set up your profile according to instructions in the following video tutorial. To do so, you will need a username and password for the DG system. If you do not yet have such a name and password, contact us at .

5. Working with the system

Have a look at our video tutorials which will, in a clear and lucid manner, guide you through all functions of the DG program. Their list is found on this page.
