Lecture by Prof. Michal Federowicz (IFiS PAN, Warsaw): War migrants from Ukraine in Polish schools: The growing share of migrant students and the dynamics of educational changeThe lecture will present research on the integration of Ukrainian refugee students into Polish schools. Prof. Michal Federowicz Professor of sociology at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of Polish Academy of Sciences; head of the Unit of Sociology of Politics, Economy and Education. He graduated in sociology at Warsaw University, having previously graduated in engineering at Warsaw University of Technology and worked in the Institute of Aviation. After his PhD in sociology (1992) he was awarded an individual studies programme as a scholarship holder of the Kościuszko Foundation at Cornell University and Harvard University (Centre for European Studies). In 2005 he earned a postdoctoral degree in Humanities for his work on “Variety of Capitalism: Institutionalism and the Experience of Systemic Change After Communism”. In 1999-2016 he coordinated Polish research group of PISA (the OECD Programme for International Student Assessment). In 2005 he founded a Research Group on Cross-Disciplinary Education Studies. In 2009–2017 he headed the Educational Research Institute in Warsaw, then in 2017-2021 director of the Graduate School for Social Research (GSSR). Member of editorial board of the Polish Sociological Review ( 2000–2011), and chief editor of the quarterly Edukacja (2012–2018). |
