WORKSHOP: Writing Effective Literature Reviews

This workshop (3 hours total) is designed to help doctoral students, especially non-native English speakers, on how to write an effective academic literature review.

We will focus on:

• the best approach to writing a review

• specific language commonly used

• ways to avoid plagiarism

• other elements of good academic writing style

Time: from 14:00 to 17:15 (15 minutes break included)

About the tutor:

Jason Hwang, MAEd

He is originally from California and has been teaching in the Czech Republic since 2005. He focuses mainly on adult teaching, exams preparation, and academic writing for PhD students of science. He has taught academic English at several UK universities (Sheffield, Bristol, Edinburgh, UCL), various faculties at Charles University, SUCHDOL, the Technical University of Liberec, and the Universidad del Desarrollo in Chile, amongst others. Jason holds an MA in Education (Applied Linguistics) and the Cambridge Delta Diploma. He obtained degrees in Biochemistry/Cell Biology and Theatre from the University of California, San Diego. Before getting involved in English teaching, he was working for one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies as a researcher, as well as acting with some of San Diego’s many theatre companies.
