Preparatory English course

In 2025, the Department of Languages and Medical Terminology again hosts a preparatory English course for medical faculty applicants, taught by Dr Václav Koutný. Pre-Medical English students are introduced to general and specific vocabulary from the fields of anatomy, clinical medicine, and pathology, including the basics of Latin and Greek in medical terminology. They also learn to take a patient's medical history and further themselves in every individual aspect of the language. The cornerstone of the course is a preparation for the second round of the entrance examination to the Third Faculty of Medicine, i.e., working with a medically oriented text using memorization and summarization techniques. The course lasts a total of 20 weeks, from the 14th week of the winter term to the 14th week of the summer term.

Preparatory Czech course

From January to May 2025, foreign students interested in studying at the 3rd Faculty of Medicine of Charles University or any other Czech medical faculty attend also within the Pre-Medical Czech language courses for foreigners, which are organized by the Department of Languages and Medical Terminology, specifically by the teacher PhDr. Mgr. Bc. Marie Štěpánová, Ph.D. Students from Turkey, South Africa, the Philippines and other countries are introduced to the basics of the Czech language using the Czech Expres textbook and other materials. Although they are preparing to study in the English curriculum, they perceive the importance of the language of the country in which they plan to study and, in later years, go on internships in various hospital departments.
